BIO SNAPSHOT
Greetings! My name is Katie Wittman Conklin. This website is designed to share ‘best practices’ in online education, and inspire other educators to maximize their teaching potential in an online environment. While I have been teaching for West Hills College in the Central Valley of CA for the past 8 years, I was not always an educator by trade. After graduate school, I worked in community mental health in 4 states over 10 years before transitioning to teaching and education. Traveling throughout the country at the direction of the US Navy provided a wide range of professional work experiences while my husband served as a Navy pilot. Those adventures and challenges gave me an appreciation for the diversity that exists in our world. Looking to put some roots down, our family relocated from southern California to northern Idaho – trading in the beaches and active duty military for the mountains and farming. A mother of two energetic kids, I am thankful to be teaching online while remaining flexible to the needs of my family.
EDUCATION
Master’s of Education in Counseling at Old Dominion University Norfolk, VA. 2010.
B.A. Sociology and Justice Studies, Psychology Minor at the University of Idaho. Moscow, ID 2003
TEACHING PHILOSOPHY
Education is a life-long process, and my classroom seeks to develop a learning environment that aides in personal growth and development as psychological and sociological principles are examined.
Ideas are presented and instruction is provided to foster learning, relevant application to life experiences, and inspire positive change. Finally, my classroom provides a safe learning community in which students can challenge their thinking and engage in diverse dialogue where individual differences are celebrated.
SAMPLE SYLLABUS
